In June 2023, the WRD received funding from the ND Department of Water Resources to carry out wood debris snagging and clearing  in the South Branch of the Park River. This includes a 3.4 mile stretch for this grant award,  The effort has been multi-phase over the past few years. Work will begin in late December of 2023.

The work is completed using NRCS specifications. It involves removing wood debris in the stream channel, which may include trees that are starting to fall in.  Only non-beneficial wood debris is removed.  The photo below shows wood debris creating extra force on a bridge in Fertile Township.
