The Highway Department office is located in the Walsh County Courthouse in Grafton. The Superintendent of Highways and the Administrative Officer work out of this office. The highway department has five maintenance shops, one storage lot, and two gravel pits located throughout Walsh County.

The county shops are full service shops where employees perform maintenance and repairs of all types. The shops house much of the equipment used to maintain the county road system. There is no office staff at these facilities and often are unattended as employees are usually working outside the shops on the roads or other projects.

The Highway Department employs 14 full time road employees, 1 administrative employee, the highway superintendent and 5 seasonal part time employees.
